Our AECHS staff highlight of the month is Senora Lily Martinez-Pinzon. She has been teaching in Akron Public Schools for 25 years. This is her 16th year at AECHS.
In Senora’s words “ I chose education as a career because of the joy it gives me to be a part of the learning experience”
“Being a first generation college graduate, I came to AECHS to be a part of a team that rallies behind and supports students who also dream of and work towards obtaining both a high school and college degree.
Senora also said “AEC is a special place to be because it truly offers a world class education, where all of our lives, teachers and students alike, are enriched by the traditions and experiences of individuals from all over the world. Initially, education is the goal, but along the journey, acceptance, friendship, support, caring individuals and a sense of confidence and strength to be themselves are experienced.”
Senora said that a special memory she has, and will always cherish, is of the times when the students and I have connected through song, dance, instruments, sports, sharing a meal or just simply talking.
Senora said to the parents, “ I’d like to thank you for all the love and support you provide for your child.” and to the students,” don’t forget that your worth comes from so much more than academics. Treasure all that is you.”
-Love, Señora
Thoughts from our staff and students:
“Senora Martinez has a fun and safe learning environment and really tries to show us the real culture of Mexico, may that be with her fun activities or our cultural thursdays. She really expresses the importance of what she's teaching and explains it thoroughly. She has really let me understand my culture better. Senora is an amazing teacher and I am very glad she is my Spanish teacher.”

Senora Martinez does not just teach Spanish, she teaches respect, she teaches acceptance, she teaches kindness and she teaches about the world around us. She brings other cultures together in her classroom and shows our students how connected we really are. AEChS is lucky to have Senora on our team.”
