Guidance Concerns Specific, Public Venues

This week, Akron Public Schools Superintendent Christine Fowler Mack informed the board of education and the community that students, staff and visitors to APS schools must wear masks as students return to class for the new school year.

"We will be reevaluating our practices based on advice from our allies in the field of public health and education," she told the board Monday evening.

The CDC now recommends that fully vaccinated persons wear a mask in a public indoor setting in areas of substantial or high transmission.

The CDC has noted that this is because “Emerging evidence suggests that fully vaccinated persons who do become infected with the Delta variant are at risk for transmitting it to others (2), (CDC COVID-19 Response Team, unpublished data, 2021).”

Currently, all Northeast Ohio counties only have a moderate transmission, according to the CDC.
